Hunt for missing forestry worker

SANDAKAN: The Forestry Department has launched a search for a worker who was reported missing in the Lungmanis forest reserve since last Tuesday. Forest worker, Alisius Piging Ampin, 51, was among a team of rangers sent to the forest reserve at Jalan Sandakan – Telupid to monitor a site clearing work but he was never seen after that.

State forestry director Datuk Sam Mannan said “We are searching for him. And we will continue to look for him until he is found.” Sam however said they could not yet establish if Alisius got lost in the forest reserve. Alisius’ family came to know about his disappearance when informed by his colleague last Sunday.

And, his sister Jelinah, 46, subsequently lodged a missing person report at the Ulu Dusun Police Post near Mile 30 Jalan Labuk yesterday. Family members are also joining in the search and rescue operation with the hope of finding Alisius soon. “My brother’s colleagues have been looking for him in the forest reserve but they have yet to find any sign of him,” Jelinah said. Jelonah also said they have been trying to call Alisius on his mobile phone but he was not answering the calls.
